Wedding of Sarah and Steve – Saturday 14 January 2012

After a little break over Christmas, we hit the ground running with our very first wedding for 2012 on Saturday 14th January.

Sarah and Steve decided to hold their ceremony and reception at the beautiful grounds of the Redland Bay Golf Club and it certainly was a gorgeous spot for a wedding.

We often get to share in many funny little moments at each wedding we photograph and for Sarah and Steve’s wedding – we had to giggle at Sarah’s “to do list” for her groom-to-be. There was no way Steve was forgetting to bring those rings

Its also been a while since we last photographed a wedding with a horse and carriage and its such a romantic touch to a wedding day. Makes for some great pics too!

After the nuptials, we headed off on our little adventure to capture the location photos. We didn’t have to go far though as the golf course gave us a great backdrop.

We had a wonderful time sharing in Sarah and Steve’s wedding day. We’d like to wish you both all the happiness in the world and hope you enjoy the pics below.

Wedding of Amy & Andrew at Goondiwindi

2011’s lucky last……the beautiful wedding of Amy and Andrew

What a wonderful year 2011 has been for us here at NKN Photography.

Firstly and most importantly…2011 saw the arrival of our AMAZING little boy Isaac. Who would have thought that becoming a parent would bring so much joy and wonder into your life. Not a day goes by where Isaac doesn’t do something that puts a smile on both our faces. We are certainly proud parents.

Secondly, we have photographed so many fantastic weddings. I guess you never get bored with something you love doing and being passionate about photography makes my job awesome!

So to wind up 2011, we had the honour of photographing the wedding of Amy and Andrew in the very wet town of Goondiwindi on Saturday 26 November.

When we first met with A & A earlier this year, we had all of these fantastic plans of gorgeous open field shots with lots of sun rays shining down around us. Well….mother nature certainly had her own ideas. It literally bucketed down and water was everywhere!

Tina woke early Saturday morning and was so bummed that it was raining. Having already checked out the area for location ideas the day before, Tina decided to take a quick trip around the town to look for some new wet weather ideas.

But being our lucky last wedding of the year, luck was certainly on our side. By lunch there were beautiful blue skies as far as the eye could see. Yay!!!!

We arrived at Amy’s family home a few hours before the big event and the girls were all very relaxed and excited to see the wedding day finally here. Its really great to be able to photograph a bride to be in her family home. So many wonderful memories of their childhood would live in the walls of the family home so it must be amazing for her parents to see their little girl transform into a gushing bride. Amy certainly was a gorgeous bride to be (lucky Tina doesn’t get jealous with me being around all of these gorgeous brides )

After a few fun filled hours with the girls, it was time to meet up with Andrew at the Holy Trinity Church. I’m pretty sure Andrew was a little nervous to say the least. I’ve been there myself before so I can totally understand the nerves Andrew

The Holy Trinity Church was a really beautiful location for Amy and Andrew’s wedding. Amy looked absolutely amazing walking down the isle and Tina tells me that it was so romantic watching Andrew keep looking at Amy as she arrived by his side at the alter.

When it was time to head off for the location photos, we were fortunate enough to be given permission to photograph at the home of Tony and Jill. This lovely couple were the grandparents to our beautiful junior bridesmaids/flower girl. Tony and Jill, thank you so much for allowing us to use your gardens – you’ve done a beautiful job and we hope you are very proud of your achievement. We also hope you like this little image from the day.

We were also lucky enough to share a meal with the guests at Amy and Andrew’s reception. The Golden Age Centre was a great spot for the reception, over looking the Macintyre River.

We’d like to say a very big thank you to Amy, Andrew and your families for allowing us to share in your wedding day. We wish you every happiness in your married life and we hope you love the sneak peek below.

Wedding of Melanie & Ben at St Agatha’s Catholic Parish, Clayfield

Saturday the 12th of November 2011 was a beautiful bright and sunny day. Another perfect day for the wedding of Melanie and Ben.

We met up with Melanie at her parents house where we first got a glimpse of her bright green shoes while Melanie was just getting her makeup finished.
The girls got dressed and Melanie’s mother helped with the all important zipping up of the dress. After a couple family photos including a gorgeous little 9 month old boy that reminded me a lot of Isaac, we were off to the church.

The couple tied the knot at St Agatha’s Catholic Parish, Clayfield. Father Adrian was the priest for the couple who also happened to be on the front page of the Courier Mail that day for getting his second hole in one at the Royal Queensland Golf Club.

After the family photos it was time for the happy new couple and their bridal party to head to Newstead Park where we only had a short time to get some fun photos before heading to the Baguette Bistro and Bar to mingle with their guests and sit down for the reception.

Wedding of Kathy & Ben at Victoria Park Golf Club, Brisbane

A memorable experience on a memorable date. Kathy and Ben were married on Friday the 11th of November 2011. Yep, that’s right. 11/11/11.

I first met up with Kathy and her bridesmaids at the amazing Sofitel Hotel, Brisbane.

Kathy was cool, calm and collected while enjoying the lead up to the big occasion. The girls got into their dresses and I made a mad dash to catch up with Ben and his Groomsmen to get some photos.

The boys were also getting ready at the Sofitel. Ben and the boys were casually getting dressed while I snapped some shots. They also had some interesting cufflinks and each had a story behind it.

Now it was time to head off to the Victoria Park Golf Club where the couple were about to tie the knot in the Marquee.

After an intimate ceremony with family and friends we headed off to a favourite spot of ours over in Newfarm where the trees completely cover the road. We got some photos with the bridal party and the old stretch limousine then moved on to the Powerhouse which is also a favourite of ours.

The bridal party cracked a couple bottles of champagne and enjoyed the afternoon checking out the grounds at the Brisbane Powerhouse.

From there it was time to head back to Victoria Park Golf Club where we got a couple shots on the bridge with the city lights in the background.

Wedding of Vanessa & Nicholai at Preston Village Chapel, Toowoomba

A little country romance….wedding of Vanessa and Nicholai on the 22nd October 2011.

We were off to another destination wedding this past weekend….to the not so little country town of Toowoomba. Toowoomba really is a beautiful city and the perfect location for a romantic country wedding.

We had a busy afternoon on Friday 21 Oct travelling all over Toowoomba to scout out the locations which Vanessa and Nicholai had chosen for their special day. These guys were super organised so certainly made our job a lot easier

The big day finally arrived for Vanessa and Nicholai on Saturday 22 October 2011. We arrived to meet up with the girls at Vanessa’s family home and found the girls to be very relaxed. Vanessa is a really really nice person and it wasn’t long before we felt like we’d know the girls for years – not just a few minutes. We were all even having a little giggle at poor old Nich who was obviously nervous……he was sending his gorgeous bride to be text messages confirming how they should do the big “kiss”. Sorry Nic, we just had to share this pic – it was very cute!

Vanessa’s Mum and Dad were very accommodating and her girls were just fabulous. A big thanks to Natalie for all her help with the dress, shoes, flowers etc etc.

Having already visited Preston Village Chapel the day before, we already knew that the ceremony location would be just gorgeous for this special couple’s nuptials. The Chapel was relocated to its current location many moons ago and they have done an absolutely perfect job at restoring the old girl. A gorgeous location indeedy.

Nic was a little nervous when we first arrived at the Chapel but lets face it, who doesn’t get a little anxious when they are about the marry the girl of their dreams Poor Nic even had to run back to the Chapel as his bride to be was on time (maybe even a tad early!)……not fashionably late as tradition might expect.

After Vanessa and Nic had said their “i-dos”, we were off on our little adventure to capture some stunning location photos. Location photos are always heaps of fun and its even better when you have an awesome couple to shoot.

One of the most memorable spots for us was certainly the historic Royal Bull’s Head Inn. This pretty old lady was build way back in the 1850s and some of the rooms are still in their original condition. We decided this place would be great to have a play with the styling of the photos and Vanessa and Nic were keen to go with our ideas of posing the way it would have been done all those years ago. Very formal and no smiling…….which was very difficult for Nich who kept cracking us up! So there were a few “not so traditional” pics in there too

As we always say, we are so honoured to be part of such a special occasion in people’s lives and when you love what you do – its the best job in the world.

To Vanessa, Nic and your wonderful families…..thanks so much for allowing us to capture the essence of your special day. We hope that these images help you to relive your wedding day memories for years to come. May your married life be filled with much love and laughter.

Wedding of Courtney & Calum at Heron Island, Australia

Cheeky Groom + Gorgeous Bride + Heron Island = Bewdiful Destination Wedding!!!!!!!

So Tina, Isaac and I were off to Heron Island this past weekend to photograph the wedding of Courtney and Calum on the 15th October 2011. This was Isaac’s very first destination wedding (although he’s a bit little to shoot yet….give him another year or two!) and Tina’s first shoot back after welcoming our little monster into our lives. Eight months is a lot of creative energy build up for Tina so she couldn’t wait to get snapping away.

After a plane trip and a two hour boat journey via the Heron Islander, we finally landed on the stunning Heron Island. This place is absolutely picture perfect – crystal clear waters and coral reef right off the Heron Island Resort door step. What else could you ask for!

What started as a postcard perfect day on the Friday, quickly turned into a feral freaky storm on the morning of the big day. Tina and I were more than a little nervous to be honest. Yeah we can deal with a shower here and there but thunder, lighting and bucketing down rain……that’s a different story all together. Cameras and big rain = sad cameras and sad photographers

While eating breakfast in the resorts restaurant, we were kicking into emergency backup plan drive and decided – we need to see Abi ASAP.

So who is Abi you may ask, well Abi is the resorts Fabulous (yes with a captial “F” cause she’s fantastic) Wedding/Groups Coordinator. Abi could not have been more helpful from our very first email contact right through to showing us around the island and walking through her ideas for wet weather plans. I wonder if we could clone Abi and take her with us to all of the venues we shoot at……….hmmm.

In the end our prayers for good weather were certainly answered as the day turned into an absolutely gorgeous spring day. The colours and natural lighting were just perfect for photographing weddings. We felt so lucky to end up with perfect weather and an awesome couple to photograph.

Now, on to the fun stuff – the wedding……..

When writing blogs I often try to think of ways of introducing you to our couples, a brief description of what we see as their photographers. Well with these guys, its simple….love.

Amongst all the planning and chaos that goes along with a destination wedding, these guys just seemed so calm. Even with the crazy weather we faced on the Saturday morning, neither Calum nor Courtney were even the least bit concerned. They were cool, calm and collected; they were just stoked to be getting married to each other. That to us is a perfect example of what marriage is all about, it doesn’t matter if the plans don’t go exactly right…..its all about saying I-DO to the person you love.

We first caught up with Calum and the fellas whilst they relaxed with a few beverages by the pool and had a quick game of chess. Chess you ask? Where else can you play chess with kiddie size chess pieces and views out over a coral reef – it was an obvious place for some chillaxin before the nuptials. We even got the man of the moment to give us his best supermodel poses – which of course were egged on by the boys.

Courtney and her lovely girls were busy with their final touches when we arrived at the islands Beach House. We quickly saw the awesome photo opportunities provided by the private beach access and decided this would be the perfect backdrop for photos with the girls. Courtney had previously mentioned how much she loved the forest areas on the island so we were over the moon with the natural setting of the Beach House.

Tina always raves about her favourite moment of a ceremony being the groom’s first look at his stunning bride and Calum didn’t disappoint. He even fought the urge to sneak a look as Courtney walked through the shrub lined path to the poolside ceremony area. Calum’s expression and telling Courtney she looked beautiful when she finally reached him, just magic!

As photographers we have the pleasure of witnessing, and capturing, those cute candid moments each couple share during their ceremony that often go unnoticed by family and friends. For Courtney and Calum, the cheeky moment we got on film was Calum licking his lips as Anne Donaghey said “you may kiss your bride”. Hahaha, gotcha Cal

Well we could rave on and on about how much fun we had with Courtney, Calum and their family and friends but at the end of the day……the photos tell it all.

Courtney and Calum…..thanks so much for letting us be part of this very special moment in your life. We hope that the images help you to remember all of those little moments that will remain forever in your heart.

Brisbane Festival – City of Lights

The City of Lights laser show is like nothing ever seen before in Australia. Banks of powerful lasers and lights are sitting atop of several prominent buildings along the river. Lights also line the Victoria Bridge which are all synchronised to a great soundtrack. We saw the show on a Thursday night and it was pretty easy to find a grassy spot to sit down and watch the show. If you are in Brisbane I recommend to get along and see it.

The show starts at 7pm and 8pm each night from the 4th Sepember 2011 to the 24th September.

Make sure you watch the video below at the highest resolution you can.

Wedding of Amy & Mark at the Mt Ommaney Hotel Apartments

The wind was blowing 30 knots and the rain showers were heavy, luckily for Amy and Mark it was the day before the lucky couple were tying the knot.

Amy and Mark were married in the gardens at the Mt Ommaney Hotel Apartments on Saturday the 20th of August 2011.

I greeted the girls who were preparing in one of the rooms at Mt Ommaney Hotel Apartments. Amy was calm and collected and had everything under control. Amy’s bridesmaids got dressed and then helped Amy into her dress.

I then met up with the boys who were greeting guests as they were arriving. We popped down to the car park where one of groomsman had an old landrover that was in great condition. I snapped a few photos of the boys with the car and got ready to capture the couple tying the knot.

After the ceremony the happy couple got into convertible and we all headed to the University of Queensland St Lucia Campus. The Great Court at St Lucia is a gorgeous spot for wedding photos.

After the location photos we headed back to the Mt Ommaney Hotel Apartments where the couple had their reception and danced the night away with Gavin from DJ Network who provided a great soundtrack for the night.

There were definitely some awesome dance moves.

Wedding of Talya & Tim at the Broadway Chapel, Woolloongabba

Talya and Tim were married at the Broadway Chapel, Woolloogabba on Saturday the 11th of June 2011.

The couple were lucky enough to have a rain free overcast day which made for great photos.

Talya and her bridesmaids were excitingly preparing for the big day at the home of one of the bridesmaids. Talya’s bridesmaids got their dresses on then helped Talya get into her dress. We took the preparation of the girls then headed on down the the chapel to meet up with the boys.

Tim and his groomsmen were waiting at the end of the isle for the big arrival of Talya. The little chapel was filled to the brim with all of the guests at the wedding. Talya and Tim had a beautiful ceremony which included participation by the guests in a song where everybody took part. The couple tied the knot with only a small hiccup that I will let Talya fill you in on.

After the ceremony we were off to Roma Street Parklands and Kangaroo Point Cliffs for location photos.

Reception was held at The Landing at Dockside.

Wedding of Tuava & Carl at Glengariff Historic Estate, Dayboro

Tuava and Carl were married at the Glengariff Historic Estate, Dayboro on Saturday the 3rd of June 2011. The couple were meant to tie the knot back on the 14th of January 2011 but due to the floods this year, the wedding was delayed. Tuava and Carl were blessed with beautiful blue skies with barely a cloud on the horizon which is in stark contrast to the previous date.

Tuava and her bridesmaids were getting ready at Murrumba downs. On arrival all of the girls were wearing matching white dressing gowns, each with their name embroidered on the back. Very cute! Tuava’s bridesmaids got their dresses on then helped Tuava get into her dress. We took the preparation photos of all the girls bar one, who seemed to be very camera shy. Looks like we were still able to sneak a few in though

Now it was time to head to Glengariff to get some photos of the guys before the ceremony. Upon arrival there were lots of guests but the groom and his groomsmen were nowhere to be seen. After a bit of wait we found out the boys were waiting in the car park for the girls to arrive who had a pair of pants for one of the groomsmen. To say he was worried about the repercussions was an understatement.

The couple tied the knot in-front of what would have to be one of the best wedding backdrops around with a gorgeous view of the sun setting over the mountains.

Location photos were taken within the grounds of Glengariff which provided a great backdrop.
